This page gathers today's headlines from all the Nigeria newspapers in the directory onto one screen, each one attributed to the newsroom that wrote it and stamped with that newsroom's own publication time. Reading them together shows immediately which stories the whole press is carrying and which belong to one paper, and the wording differences between headlines on the same event are often the first sign of how the reports beneath them differ.
Each headline is labelled with its desk, so politics, business, security, sport, entertainment and technology can be picked out at a glance, and the label links to that desk's own page. Where several publishers have covered one development, a comparison link sets their reports side by side; the headline itself always opens the full report at the newspaper.
A headline is written to make you stop, and Nigerian dailies vary widely in how forcefully they do it. Two papers can report the same event accurately and produce headlines that leave opposite impressions, usually by choosing different facts to lead with or by attributing a claim in the body that the headline states flatly.
The habit that protects you takes about ten seconds: check who is making the claim, not just what the claim is. A headline reading that something has happened and a headline reading that an official has said it happened are very different statements, and the difference is frequently only visible in the body of the report.
When several newsrooms cover one development, the useful signal is not that the headlines agree but where they diverge. Different figures, different named actors or a different location usually mean the reports are working from different sources, and that is worth knowing before you accept any single version.
Where headlines are word-for-word identical, that often indicates a shared origin such as a wire report or an official statement rather than independent confirmation. Our story pages count distinct headline versions for this reason, and say plainly when identical wording does not establish that several newsrooms verified something separately.

Reliability is better judged per story than per title. Headlines that attribute a claim to a named source, and reports that say what documentation they rest on, are more dependable than confident phrasing on its own.
Usually because they are drawing on different sources, or reporting at different points as an incident develops. Where our sources disagree on a number, we say so on the story page rather than picking one figure.
